22nd March 2018 - Chris Evans Plans to Retire as Captain America After Avengers 4 Reshoots
A profile of the actor in the New York Times asserts that Evans plans to leave the Marvel franchise after planned reshoots for the fourth Avengers movie later this year, quoting him as saying, “You want to get off the train before they push you off.” (Evans has played Captain America since 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.)
This is far from the first time that the idea of Evans retiring as Captain America has been raised; indeed, initial interviews from the set of next month’s Avengers: Infinity War featured much discussion about the possibility of many of the original Avengers cast retiring, talking about the movie’s promotion being one of the final times they’ll spend together. However, this does appear to be the first confirmation from Evans that he’s planning his departure from the franchise.

Last year, he filmed back-to-back the final two Marvel movies for which he is under contract — “Avengers: Infinity War,” due in April, and a sequel planned for next year. For now, he has no plans to return to the franchise (“You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he said), and expects that planned reshoots in the fall will mark the end of his tenure in the familiar red, white and blue super suit.

27th November 2017 - 20 More Movies in Development; Avengers 4 to act as a ‘Finale’
After Avengers 4, an ambitious multi-franchise crossover movie slated for release in 2019, at least some of the original characters who sit at the center of the billion-dollar Avengers team will be hanging up their capes and shields. That’s partially because the Marvel contracts with the actors who play them—Evans (Captain America), Ruffalo (Hulk), Downey (Iron Man), Johansson (Black Widow), Hemsworth (Thor), and Renner (Hawkeye)—are coming to an end.
Disney promises that Marvel has at least another 20 years’ worth of characters and worlds to explore—for starters, the studio is finally delivering films with black and female heroes at the core—but declines to offer up any secrets of that ambitious slate. Moviegoers, for now, will simply have to trust in Feige.
To hear Disney C.E.O. Bob Iger tell it, Marvel’s next wave is just beginning. He notes that the studio has rights to 7,000 characters, who can travel anywhere their creators wish to take them. “We’re looking for worlds that are completely separate—geographically or in time—from the worlds that we’ve already visited,” Iger explained.
Both Iger and Feige hinted at how the franchise will expand into different realms, with James Gunn working in close collaboration to possibly spin off some characters from the extraterrestrial world of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel is “22 movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before—intentionally,” Feige said.
While Feige refused to reveal any details about the characters and stories Marvel has yet to introduce, he did promise a definitive end to the franchise that built Marvel. Avengers 4, he said, will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.” This may mean a lot of dead Avengers at the hands of the villain Thanos, who has appeared sporadically and tantalizingly since the first Avengers movie back in 2012. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe will live on. “There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting,” Feige teased.

11th August 2017 - Production Begins
Thanks to Emily for the heads up
“Beginning the end,” reads a post on their official Facebook page along with a teaser image of a gloved hand holding up four fingers.
The Russos wrapped production on Infinity War shortly before the D23 Expo and San Diego Comic-Con, where the first epic trailer debuted exclusively for the gathered crowds. (Speaking of which, the rest of us are patiently waiting on an official release.) Now the filmmakers are back at it.
The title of Avengers 4 was originally dubbed Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2, but soon dropped the subtitle. It’s new name is still a secret because, as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed to CinemaBlend earlier this year, it’s a spoiler of what’s to come.

10th June 2017 - Chris Evans Extends His Contract to Include Avengers 4
Chris Evans has portrayed five different comic book characters across ten different movies in five different franchises over the course of twelve years. But most of those roles pale in comparison to the duty of playing Captain America.
Evans is giving the impression that his time in the star-spangled tights are coming to an end, but he decided to extend his stay in the universe just a bit longer for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.
“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter,” Evans said to the Telegraph. “They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”
Though he wouldn’t give any spoilers regarding his character’s eventual fate, Evans did reveal that he decided to sign on for the fourth Avengers movie “because it made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up.”

7th April 2015 - Russo Brothers Officially Confirmed to DirectWe’ve been hearing for months now that the Russo Brothers are the front-runners to direct The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 & 2: the two movie event that will (for all intents and purposes) close out Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More recently, a report emerged claiming that Anthony and Joe Russo had indeed closed their deal to helm the third and fourth Avengers films.
Today, Marvel Studios officially confirmed that the Russos will be calling the shots on the upcoming two-part Avengers “event” – based on the Marvel comic book storyline that will bring Thanos a.k.a. The Mad Titan’s (Josh Brolin) ongoing quest to unite the Infinity Gems – and use them for his own nefarious purposes – to the forefront. The first two Avengers installments were written and directed by Joss Whedon (including this year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron), but a screenwriter (or screenwriting team) has yet to be announced for the Infinity War features.

28th October 2014 - Film AnnouncedIt’s finally happenened, moviegoers. Today at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles Marvel Studios unveiled Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, dating all the way up to May 2019. All of their official release dates for unannounced features have been titled, and in some cases, slightly moved. We can happily put to rest the hints, reports and rumors from the last half a decade and focus on what’s actually going to hit theaters from camp Marvel.
The Avengers: Infinity War begins the summer of 2018 as a two-part story and bridging it and its 2019 followup will be Captain Marvel and Inhumans in 2018. We don’t know what comes after Infinity War breaks the universe, but it’s when most of the current main Avengers cast see their contracts expire. By the end of Age of Ultron we might already see a drastically different team and a few years from now we’ll probably have someone else wearing the Captain America uniform like in the comics.
